Interrupt एक condition होती है जिसके कारण processor को कुछ Time के लिए Another task को Perform करना पड़ता है और जब वह task complete हो जाता है तो वह Return अपने पहले वाले task को execute करता है.

जब processor के द्वारा कोई Process execute होती है और user दूसरी Process को execute करने के लिए request करता है तब जो running process होती है उसमें रुकावट generate होती है. जिसे interrupt कहते हैं.

interrupt, Processor के लिए एक signal होता है जो hardware या software के द्वारा generate होता है. Interrupt एक event को indicate करता है जिसे जल्द से जल्द solve करना होता है

For Example : mouse से click करने पर, document को print करने पर आदि से interrupt generates हो सकता है.

• Interrupts जो है वह hardware, software, users और कुछ error conditions के द्वारा generate हो जाते है. But processor को सभी interrupts को carefully handle करना पड़ता है. इसलिए Processor interrupt को handle करने के लिए fetch, decode एवं execute आपरेशंस  को run करता है.
• Interrupt system का main कार्य interrupt के source को identify करना होता है. जब बहुत सारी devices एक ही Time में एक साथ processor से communicate करने की request करती हैं. तो interrupt system को यह decide करना होता है कि किस device को पहले service Provide की जाए.

Working of interrupts

processor और peripheral devices के मध्य data का Transmission Processor के द्वारा होता है.

But, Processor तब तक Transmission को Start नही कर सकता जब तक कि peripheral डिवाइस Processor से communicate करने के लिए ready नहीं हो जाती. और जब peripheral डिवाइस Processor से communicate करने के लिए ready हो जाती है तब वह एक interrupt signal को Processor के लिए generate करती है.

जितने भी input-output डिवाइस System से connected रहती है वो सभी interrupt request को generate कर सकती है.

Hardware interrupt in hindi

जब processor को कोई signal external device या hardware से received होता है तब यह interrupt, Hardware interrupt कहलाता है.

For example : जब हम कोई Task करने के लिए keyboard पर कोई key press करते हैं तो key के press करने से एक interrupt signal generate होता है. यह signal Processor को कुछ task Complete करने के लिए कहता है.

Types of hardware interrupts

hardware interrupts के Two Types होते है.

1. maskable interrupts
2. non-maskable interrupts

maskable interrupts

Maskable interrupts को processor के द्वारा ignore या delay किया जा सकता है जब इससे highest priority कि कोई Process, interrupts generate करती है तो.

वह interrupt जिसे Processor के द्वारा disable या ignore किया जा सकता है Maskable interrupts कहलाता है. Maskable interrupts या तो edge triggered या level triggered होते है, जिन्हें Processor द्वारा disable किया जा सकता है.

For Example :- microprocessor 8085 के INTR, RST 5.5, RST 6.5, RST 7 .5 इत्यादि maskable interrupts है.

यह lower priority tasks को Handle करने में help करता है

non-maskable interrupts

Non Maskable interrupts को Processor के द्वारा ignore या delay नही किया जा सकता है non-maskable interrupt कहलाता है.

इसे Instantly process करना पड़ता है. इसका प्रयोग critical power failure की स्थिति में किया जाता है.

सामन्यतया, यह non-recoverable hardware error को दर्शाता है.

यह higher priority tasks को हैंडल करने में मदद करता है. Example के लिए TRAP एक non-maskable interrupt है.

Types of Software Interrupts

Software Interrupts भी Two Types के होते है :

Generally जिन devices की speed High होती है उन्हें highest priority दी जाती है. जैसे कि- magnetic disks.

जिन hardware devices कि speed slow होती है उन्हें low priority दी जाती है for example - keyboard.
